Message from your State President Riley

Members and Advisers,

Welcome fellow FBLA members and advisers to a new year of success for the world’s largest and oldest student business organization! Together we venture out into a year of endless possibility—one that is sure to help our members “Dive Into Success”. As we kick-start our 2013-2014 membership year, I am reminded of the hundreds of handshakes and conversations I had at last year’s State Leadership Conference in Dallas. From the Valle Verde Early College High School to LaPoynor High School, and everywhere in between, I met passionate, intelligent, and ambitious members who understand the greatness of our organization and who have the talent to amplify our success. If we as an organization can come together with that same passion, there is no stopping us from achieving our goals. I was again reminded of your support at this past National Leadership Conference. While chairing the voting meeting it dawned on me, that was the last time I would ever be a candidate for office in FBLA. The amount of love and support you showed me at that conference made that meeting by far the best one ever. Although I lost, I am so glad to return to work for a state that is truly changing FBLA. There is proof all around us; from recruiting the most members in the nation, to recruiting the most chapters in the Mountain Plains Region, pioneering a Virtual Chapter, or donating well over 100 backpacks for Soldier’s Angels; we are making our voice heard. If we continue to work together this can truly be the year that will be recorded in history as the one that FBLA members stepped up, took initiative in their local chapters, and were able to Dive Into Success. As a passionate FBLA member and as your state president, I am calling on you to step up with me and continue to grow our local, area, and state membership numbers. Join our new state initiative, The Lone Star Challenge! The program is based around the Lone Star of Texas. There are 5 points on that star, and there are 5 parts to the challenge. The parts focus on: chapter growth, chapter involvement, chapter attendance, and chapter service for our charities, the March of Dimes and Soldier’s Angels. The top 3 chapters will receive priority seating at the Opening General Session of the 2014 State Leadership Conference and again at the Awards of Excellence Program at the Conference. All registered chapter members of the top 3 chapters at the 2014 SLC will also be recognized at their respective Area Meetings and again at the Opening General Session.

Not only do we have the opportunity to philosophically come together to achieve our organization’s goals, but FBLA members also have the opportunity to come together at one of the National Fall Leadership Conferences (NFLC). Members come join the State Action Team in Dallas-Fort Worth, TX, November 8-9th. You can also join your State VP and me at one of your Area Workshops. (Check the back of The Texan for dates) Again, our state will be supporting Soldier’s Angels. Last year, our goal was 3 backpacks per chapter. This year, I challenge you to bring 200 backpacks to the 2014 SLC!

This upcoming year we have the opportunity to come together and continue to prove that we are an organization of endless possibility. There is no dream too big and no goal out of reach for us if we come together and give it our all to achieve it. I look forward to serving our organization as your FBLA president and look forward to working with every member to Dive Into Success!
